October 31, 2025: The Misophonia Research Fund, an initiative of the REAM Foundation, is pleased to announce the release of three distinct 2026 Requests for Proposals (RFPs) designed to accelerate scientific discovery, foster collaboration, and support meaningful progress for individuals with misophonia. These funding mechanisms reflect our commitment to building a rigorous evidence base, advancing innovative science, and promoting a collaborative research culture that will drive the field forward.

The MRF invites proposals from clinical and preclinical researchers across neuroscience, psychology, audiology, neurobiology, genetics, engineering, computational and data science, and related disciplines.

This year’s opportunities include:

Misophonia Data Discovery Award

Description: The Misophonia Data Discovery Award supports early-stage research with a focus on providing key initial datasets that address clear gaps in the field and/or generate new knowledge about misophonia that is essential to the development of a large-scale research project. This grant seeks to advance the field by fostering novel approaches in studying the underlying mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment of misophonia.

Focus Areas Include: Characterization of misophonia; development and validation of objective methods to diagnose misophonia; clinical and/or animal studies of interventional approaches; and the study of AI applications for the field of misophonia.  Innovative and novel approaches are encouraged.

Eligibility: All proposed research projects must be led by graduate-level (or medical) students (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D., Au.D.) or independent investigators at the faculty and postdoctoral levels (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D., Au.D.). Applicant organizations must be a non-profit academic or research institution, including domestic and non-U.S. non-profit organizations, domestic and non-U.S. public/private academic universities or institutions of higher learning.

Key Dates and Application Information

  • Full Proposal Deadline: January 12, 2026

Misophonia Research Impact Award

Description: The Misophonia Research Impact Award is focused on proposals that address clear gaps in the field and/or that generate new knowledge about misophonia and build upon previous findings using demonstrably rigorous study methods.

Focus Areas Include: Characterization of misophonia; development and validation of objective methods to diagnose misophonia; and clinical and/or animal studies of interventional approaches. Collaborative funding models and interdisciplinary teams are among prioritized approaches.

Eligibility: All proposed research projects must be led by a Principal Investigator (PI) who holds a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D., Au.D., or related). PIs must be either an independent investigator or a postdoctoral fellow. Applicant organizations must be a non-profit academic or research institution, including domestic and non-U.S. non-profit organizations, domestic and non-U.S. public/private academic universities or institutions of higher learning.

Key Dates and Application Information

  • Letter of Intent Deadline: December 5, 2025
  • Full Proposal Deadline: March 6, 2026

Misophonia Research Consortium Award

Description: New for 2026, the Misophonia Research Consortium Award is designed to bring together two or more independent investigators to pursue ambitious, multi-domain studies that cannot be achieved through individual projects alone. By fostering collaboration at scale, this award aims to accelerate scientific progress through shared expertise, resources, and infrastructure.

Focus Areas Include: The study of markers and mechanisms of misophonia; prospective and/or longitudinal studies focused on understanding or improving quality of life measures, development of interventions, and/or understanding the interplay between misophonia and comorbidities; and innovative methods and interventions for misophonia.

Eligibility: All proposed research projects must be led by a PI who holds a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D., Au.D., or related).

Full eligibility criteria, application instructions, and review guidelines can be found on the Misophonia Research Fund website.

Advancing a Shared Scientific Mission

These three funding opportunities reflect the Misophonia Research Fund’s strategic goals of increasing understanding of misophonia, objective methods of diagnosis and real-world treatments and interventions for those who are impacted. We invite investigators across disciplines – including neuroscience, psychology, data science, engineering, audiology, genetics, and related fields – to apply.
